Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21

Supersonic frontline fighter

On display
The philosophy of the MiG-21 was a minimal airframe around an engine and a radar sight. The low-aspect delta wing let the light machine hold Mach 2 with confidence, and ease of maintenance made the fighter a favourite of service regiments. The MiG-21 fought in Vietnam, in the Middle East and in dozens of local conflicts, was produced in the USSR, Czechoslovakia and India, and was modernised for almost half a century. Many machines still fly today — a rare fate for a fighter of the 1950s. The museum shows a MiG-21bis, a late version with the R-25-300 engine. A cockpit trainer that visitors may sit in is set up nearby.
