The permanent exhibition on the Salyut and Mir orbital stations: living, working and making repairs in orbit.
The launch of Salyut 1 in 1971 opened the era of long-duration orbital stations. The exhibition is built around a full-size mock-up of the Mir core module that visitors can enter: crew cabins, the control post and the treadmill are reproduced from RKK Energia drawings.
The Salyut 7 section is devoted to the most famous repair expedition in spaceflight history — the 1985 docking of Dzhanibekov and Savinykh with the powerless station. On display are an Orlan-MK spacesuit for work in open space and a Soyuz descent module.
The route concludes with a chronicle of Mir’s fifteen years in flight: 104 people aboard, 23,000 experiments, and the controlled deorbit of the station in March 2001.
